I recently read an article published on Hootsuite's blog titled, 'The 3 Rs of Better Social Engagement'. As a social media strategist in Vancouver, I found this article a great insight into the back-end that goes into creating successful social media campaigns.
I think when anyone first starts in this business, it's a whirlwind of events that leads you to the realization of 'shit, I should have read-up more on this.' The social media industry is constantly evolving, and so are your users. Their tastes are changing with the seasons and you need to keep up. How you do this? WITH A TONNE OF RESEARCH.
I start every week off with a new social media topic to inspect, disect and indulge in. One can't possibly grasp the rull range of their customers emotions, patterns, wants, needs in a single sit-down. You need to look at all the facets of your social media strategy and how your digital community connects with your brand--and this takes time young grasshopper.
The key thing I find is to not rush. I find the data and information that means the most to me (and that I understand the best) and then go from there. It's amazing what you can find using online applications such as Iconosquare to measure your results. It's also incredibly important to read through your comments and DM's, 'What are your customers asking for? What are they wanting?', and then start catering to them via your social media posts.
I think the moral of the story is in order to completely understand your social media strategy, you need to do the legwork--it's not as easy as it looks!
